The Global Pain Scholars Program identifies and supports emerging leaders in pain medicine from lower-resource settings worldwide. Through this program, selected participants are invited to the American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting where they share their unique perspectives, gain access to the latest advances in the field, and build meaningful professional networks with international colleagues.
The Global Scholars Program reflects the University of Minnesota Department of Anesthesiology's commitment to advancing anesthesiology and pain medicine globally, particularly in regions where these specialties are still developing. By equipping these scholars with knowledge, mentorship, and collaborative opportunities, we aim to help cultivate the next generation of educators and leaders in low-resource countries. Together, we can strengthen the global community of anesthesiology professionals and improve access to high-quality pain care worldwide.

2025 Scholars
The Global Online Pain Fellowship is delighted to recognize Engy Yusri, MD, and Syed Ariful Islam, MD, FIPM, as our inaugural Global Scholars for 2025. Dr. Yusri is a lecturer in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at the Medical Research Institute, Alexandria University, Egypt. Dr. Islam is an anesthesiologist and pain physician with more than 11 years of clinical experience in anesthesiology, pain management, and perioperative care.
