Appropriate pain education is essential for successful pain management. Limited knowledge, inadequate training in evidence-based pain management, and insufficient resources are significant barriers to effective pain management in low-resource countries. In these countries, there is no structured pain fellowship, leading to considerable variation in the quality and level of pain care.
A major shift in education in recent years has been the incorporation of video conferencing and other online learning methodologies. These advancements present new opportunities for both teachers and students. The goal of the Global Online Pain Fellowship is to develop a program that educates and trains young anesthesiologists, testing their knowledge and thought processes to establish a relatively uniform knowledge base and clinical judgment, which can then be measured and certified.
The fellowship requires a one-year commitment to a structured course curriculum, including monthly live lectures and live online examinations. Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate will be awarded to candidates who demonstrate satisfactory attendance (>80%) and pass the examinations with a score greater than 70%. This certification confirms that the candidate has achieved a globally recognized standard of core knowledge and has developed sound clinical judgment through participation in live online lectures and successful exam completion.
Candidates who achieve an examination score above 80% will receive a Certificate with Honors, which may support advancement in their academic careers.
